A Report to the Community

"Turning the Curve on Opioid Abuse in Bernalillo County"

Thursday, June 12, 2014

UNM Continuing Education - 1634 University Blvd. NE - Albuquerque, NM

Leaders of the Opioid Accountability Initiative called this meeting to update the community and other stakeholders on the progress made by the four implementation teams since the first Opioid Accountability Summit in September 2013. These four implementation teams have been working to take action against the staggering level of opioid-related deaths from heroin and prescription drugs in Bernalillo County. At this meeting the co-chairs of the four teams provided reports on the activities currently underway to "turn the curve" or reverse the climbing rates of opioid misuse and overdose death. This meeting also served as a call-to-action for stakeholders who have not yet committed to an Implementation Team and as an opportunity for leaders of the Opioid Accountability Initiative to hear feedback and recommendations from those unable to regularly participate in an implementation team.

Participants at this meeting heard up-to-date reports about actions taken to strengthen and improve primary prevention, Narcan distribution, treatment, and criminal justice systems.

In addition to the current members of the implementation teams, attendees included participants of the first Opioid Summit held on September 19, 2013, those unable to attend the first Summit, and others interested in reducing incidence of opioid overdose in Bernalillo County. This meeting was free and open to the public.

Please review the following documentation and video recordings of the proceedings to learn more about the June 2014 proceedings and the overall Bernalillo County Opioid Accountability Initiative.
